Dreamgirls

The Muny premiere of

Dreamgirls

July 16 - 22

All performances begin at 8:15pm

Winner of six Tony® awards and two Oscars®, Dreamgirls follows the story of an all-girl singing trio from Chicago called the Dreams. Based on the show biz stories of the 1960s R&B acts like the Supremes and James Brown, Dreamgirls portrays the heartbreak and challenges of breaking new ground, both musically and socially, and how family and friendships triumph and last through all the trials.

Dreamgirls features a blockbuster score and the landmark song "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going" with book and lyrics by Tom Eyen, and music by Henry Krieger.

Tony® and Grammy® Award-winner Jennifer Holliday will reprise her legendary Broadway performance of Effie White. Joining her will be Demetria McKinney as Deena, Jenelle Lynn Randall as Lorrell, Muny veteran Ken Page as Marty, Christopher Jackson as Curtis, Milton Craig Nealy as Jimmy, Karla Mosely as Michelle, and Tommar Wilson as C.C.

Dreamgirls is directed by Robert Clater, and choreographed by Lesia Kaye.

All performances begin at 8:15pm and end at approximately 11:00pm.

Jennifer Holliday To Star At The Muny

Tony® and Grammy Award winner Jennifer Holliday will reprise her legendary Broadway performance of Effie White in The Muny's premiere production of Dreamgirls, July 16 - 22. Jennifer will be making her Muny debut, on this, the 30th anniversary of the show's Broadway production.

"Dreamgirls will forever hold a very special place in my heart," Holliday commented. "I am honored and thrilled to reprise my role at the Historic Muny Theater. It's a wonderful opportunity for me to bring Effie back to life yet again and to sing under the stars before 11,000 people each and every night. A great testimony to the fact that it's never too late to dare to dream new dreams."

According to Executive Producer Mike Isaacson, "The Muny audience will be astounded by the talent of Jennifer Holliday. The explosive power of her voice on the Muny stage is a fitting tribute to the 30th anniversary of this landmark musical and the Muny’s tradition of iconic musical theatre under the stars."
