Accessibility Story

Our Mission Accessible to All

Since The Muny’s inception in 1919, our commitment to accessibility and eliminating barriers has been at the core of our mission.

Since The Muny’s inception, accessibility has been at the core of our mission. From our accessible seating and interpretive services to the 1,500 free seats available at each performance, our mission is to make live theatre accessible to all, regardless of physical or socioeconomic ability.

Through our Community Access program, we partner with more than 170 St. Louis-based social service organizations that enable clients to attend Muny shows free of charge. This program, along with our free seats, enables more than 100,000 people to attend a show for free each summer. Since our inception, 25% of our audience members have attended at no cost.

Inside our theatre, we provide a number of accessibility services in an effort to eliminate barriers and allow all Muny patrons to experience every production from the comfort of their own seat. We offer accessible seating at every price level, accessible parking areas, wheelchair assistance, free assistive listening devices, interpretive services at select performances, and infant-care and first-aid suites.

The Muny’s commitment to accessibility also translates to providing young people with exceptional access to the tools needed to make a career in musical theatre. When we aren’t producing our summer of shows, we are hard at work inspiring the next generation of performers, producers and creators through a variety of educational offerings, including the Muny Kids and Teens troupes, internships, the Summer Intensive and Technical Theatre Training (T3).
