Free Seats

Free Seats Accessible to All

Because everyone deserves to experience the thrill of live theatre, The Muny is proud to offer nearly 1,500 seats nightly at no cost.

What Are the Free Seats?

At The Muny, eliminating barriers — physical and financial — is at the core of our mission. Everyone deserves to experience the thrill of live theatre under the stars.

Since our inception more than a century ago, 25% of our audience members have attended shows at no charge. That’s thanks in part to our free seats, a tradition as old as The Muny itself. For each performance, the last nine rows of the theatre — nearly 1,500 seats — are made available to patrons on a first-come, first-served basis. No tickets necessary!

How Do They Work?

The free seats are limited, so arrive early! The line forms at the theatre’s upper entrance. Bring chairs, blankets and snacks to enjoy while you wait — a picnic in the free-seats line is a St. Louis tradition!

The gates for the free seats open at 7 p.m. each evening in Lichtenstein Plaza, adjacent to the upper parking lot. You’ll also find a concession stand and restrooms at the upper entrance.

Check our preshow festival calendar to see what community partners and entertainment options will be featured at Lichtenstein Plaza for your visit. The preshow festival runs from 6:45 to 8 p.m.

Patrons in the free seats can access show programs online.

Showtime is 8:15 p.m.
