Building a Better Muny

Out With the Old Seats We’re Building a Better Muny

Two construction workers wearing hard hats and safety gear use power tools while kneeling on concrete Muny seats.

Our 25-year-old theatre seats served us well. Now we’ve embarked on a Muny-sized renovation to create an even better experience for you!

As we prepare for Season 109, our historic auditorium is undergoing a significant renovation, including the replacement of more than 10,500 seats. This project represents an exciting investment in The Muny’s future, helping to preserve the theatre we all love while making it more comfortable, accessible and welcoming for generations to come.

Along with new seats — and the addition of cupholders for the front rows — here’s what you’ll see in 2027:

• Improved sightlines and accessibility
• New premium seating configurations and amenities
• Better stormwater management, which protects our infrastructure and equipment
• Upgraded aisle lighting throughout to enhance patron safety
• A new sound mix position to improve functionality and accommodate future tech needs
• Refinished theatre railings

The project will cost an estimated $9.5 million, funded by generous gifts from the Crawford Taylor Foundation, the E.C. Simmons III Foundation, the Robert J. Trulaske Jr. Family Foundation, Interco Charitable Trust, the Bellwether Foundation and an anonymous donor.
