‘Groovy Do’ Fundraiser Will Support Accessibility Services at The Muny
June 18 event features dinner, celebration and premium seating for ‘Hairspray.’
ST. LOUIS — The Muny invites supporters of all ages to a groovy evening of celebration and philanthropy at Groovy Do, a Hairspray-themed accessibility fundraiser at 6:30 p.m. June 18.
The evening begins at The Muny’s Broadhurst Pavilion with drinks, a light dinner and a lively program. Guests will then move into the theatre for premium seating at that night’s performance of Hairspray. Because you can’t stop the beat, festivities continue at intermission with dessert and more fun.
All proceeds from Groovy Do will benefit accessibility initiatives at The Muny, helping ensure live theatre remains welcoming and available to all.
Complimentary accessibility services at The Muny include nearly 1,500 free seats at every performance, wheelchair assistance, live American Sign Language interpretation, assistive listening devices, audio description for patrons who are blind or partially sighted, and closed captioning for patrons who are D/deaf and hard of hearing. All services are provided at no charge to patrons.
“Accessibility is central to The Muny’s mission and to the belief that great theatre should be open to everyone,” said Muny Director of Development Cory Smallwood. “We are deeply grateful to our donors and supporters whose generosity continues to make these services possible and helps us remove barriers for thousands of guests each season.”
Groovy Do is chaired by Cheree Berry, Ashley Kemper and Brooke Ray with the help of an outstanding host committee.
Since 1919, The Muny has worked to make the performing arts accessible to the St. Louis community and beyond. Support from Groovy Do will help sustain and expand those efforts for future audiences. Those unable to attend may also make a gift in support of accessibility services.
Groovy Do is a family-friendly event. Guests are encouraged to embrace the spirit of Hairspray with bright colors, retro flair and 1960s-inspired hair.
Tickets are $300, with a $150 option for teens/tweens. Reserve a seat by June 11 or make a donation at muny.org/groovy-do.
