The Muny Seeks 12 Emerging Theatre Artists for Competitive Summer Intensive Program
Students Will Perform in Muny and Midwest Professional Premiere of ‘Dear Evan Hansen’
ST. LOUIS — The Muny is searching for 12 young theatre artists to participate in its immersive, three-week Summer Intensive, which in 2025 includes the opportunity to perform alongside the best of Broadway in the Muny premiere of Dear Evan Hansen.
The competitive Muny Summer Intensive runs July 17-Aug. 3 and is open to high school students who will be entering their junior or senior year in fall 2025. This learning opportunity of a lifetime is open only to nonresidents of the greater St. Louis area.
Applications for the program will be accepted starting Dec. 9 at app.getacceptd.com/munyintensive. The deadline to apply is 11:59 p.m. CST March 2.
“Students who have taken part in the elite Muny Summer Intensive have gone on to attend some of the top-rated musical theatre training institutions,” said Muny Associate Artistic Director Michael Baxter, who manages the program. “The passion, discipline, and professional and intellectual integrity participants gain from this one-of-a-kind experience is unparalleled.”
As part of the Muny Summer Intensive, participants will challenge themselves in college-level classes led by industry professionals and faculty members from some of the country’s top musical theatre training programs. Courses will focus on voice, dance, acting, improv and audition technique.
Under the direction of a Broadway creative team, as well as The Muny artistic and education staff, students will complete an 11-day rehearsal process and perform for up to 11,000 audience members nightly in Dear Evan Hansen, which runs July 28-Aug. 3. The Muny is one of the first regional theatres to secure production rights for this acclaimed musical.
“The Muny Summer Intensive allows young performers from beyond St. Louis to experience the exceptional training and performance opportunities of our incomparable Muny Teens program,” said Muny Director of Education Tali Allen. “Through our Crawford Taylor Education Initiative, we can broaden our reach and introduce students from across the country to the unmatched magic of the Muny stage.”
Prospective students should complete an online application and submit a headshot, resume and three videos (a musical theatre song, a contemporary monologue and a dance video) using the online Acceptd platform. Participants will be responsible for their own transportation to St. Louis, but housing, meals and transportation between the Webster University dormitory and The Muny are covered by the $5,800 tuition fee. Scholarships are available for qualifying students.
Studio classes and housing are hosted in collaboration with the Sargent Conservatory of Theatre Arts at Webster University in Webster Groves, Mo. The Muny Summer Intensive is offered through the Crawford Taylor Education Initiative.
