Ken Page Award winner returns for her ninth Muny season, this time in a featured role.

When Shrek The Musical opens this summer at The Muny, audiences will see a familiar face in a featured role: Amelie Lock as Teen Fiona.

Amelie returns for her ninth consecutive Muny season as a proud member of the Muny Kids and Teens program. She is among nine juvenile principals in this season’s Muny productions.

A junior at Ladue Horton Watkins High School, Amelie represented St. Louis at the 2025 Jimmy Awards as the Ken Page Award winner for best leading actress. In May, a new group of standout high school performers competed at the Ken Page Awards, the regional pathway to the national Jimmy Awards in June in New York City.

Ahead of her return to the Muny stage this summer, Amelie reflected on what the acclaimed Muny Kids and Teens education program has meant to her growth as an artist.

Q • What’s your favorite thing about being part of Muny Kids and Teens?

A • The guidance from the Muny education team is incredible. It is truly a unique training program in that we are treated and trained as professionals. … The community and support I receive from my Muny friends is also incredible. It is somewhat rare to be a part of an environment that, while high stakes, is so supportive.

Q • What Muny shows have you been involved with?

A • My first Muny audition was at age 9. Since then, I’ve performed in Gypsy, Footloose, The Sound of Music, Mary Poppins, Beauty and the Beast, Little Shop of Horrors, Les Misérables, Waitress and Jersey Boys. This summer I will play Teen Fiona in Shrek The Musical and will be in the Teen Ensemble of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s South Pacific.

Q • Do you have a favorite memory or achievement from your time with the Muny education program?

A • Les Misérables was an amazing experience because we were in nearly every scene of the show and truly seen as ensemble members. Tons of the adults from that show are now in the national tour, so that is very cool, too! And I am so excited to play Teen Fiona in Shrek.

Q • Has the program opened doors or prepared you for roles beyond The Muny?

A • Watching the Broadway professionals who fill both the principal and ensemble Equity tracks at The Muny has provided countless examples of how to take care of myself and lead a show with grace. Last year, I went to the Jimmy Awards in New York City, which consisted of 10 12-hour days of rehearsal. It was my training at The Muny that provided me the foundation and stamina to be successful during this process.

Q • How has the program helped you grow, onstage or off?

A • I have seen immense growth in my time with both Muny Kids and Muny Teens. Learning from six different choreographers, all with different styles, for each teen troupe number is a very unique opportunity. … It fosters a fast and furious rehearsal process and professional standards in an environment that feels safe and welcoming.

Q • What do you like most about performing?

A • Watching 11,000 people with different day-to-day lives experience theatre, whether it is their first season or 50th, is exhilarating.

Q • Why should a young performer join the Muny Kids or Teens?

A • I’ve heard Broadway professionals say every summer that the best BFA program is the Muny Teens. While I am probably quite biased, I would say that is absolutely true! We can’t take for granted the training that we have here.

The Muny Kids and Muny Teens are the flagship programs of the Crawford Taylor Education Initiative. The Ken Page Awards are produced by the Fox Performing Arts Charitable Foundation, The Muny and the Fabulous Fox Theatre, and presented by Carol B. Loeb. Learn more at muny.org/education.
